Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Warning: Image cropped on all sides
This is a review of the 25th Anniversary Edition.

This DVD was made from a full screen version where the left and right sides were cropped. From that image, they cropped the top and the bottom to produce this so-called widescreen version. The image you see when watching this DVD consists of a small rectangle cut from the center of the original movie. If you could find a full screen version, you would see more of the original movie than if you watch this so-called widescreen version. ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superb Entertainment, Eye-Opening "What If?"
"Wargames" returns viewers to the Cold War era while adding serious human and computer problems. Today the advances in computers, artificial intelligence, viruses, hacking, security mechanisms, and the Internet, and their greater utilization may have made the scenario depicted more likely than it was when the movie was created in 1983.

The introductory scene highlights the morality associated with being a 'missileman' commander tasked with making an extremely deadly response when given ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wargames 25th Anniversary Edition is anamorphic
I recently watched the 25th Anniversary Edition of Wargames and it is definitely anamorphic despite what some reviewers from August and September 2008 have said.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - 25 years later...
This movie is about a British operative named only "Joshua" who communicates with a high school student and his girlfriend over the internet. Security is compromised and Joshua forces the young couple into a deadly game of chess creating a lot of confusion for American military brass. The Soviet Union was somehow involved too but indirectly. This is where the movie lost me, hence the 2 stars.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent!
This movie is a classic and a must have for any 80's movie buff. Matthew Broderick is brillant and the special features on the DVD are wonderful. Lots of cast interviews and behind the scenes extras.

Amazon.com:
Cute but silly, this 1983 cautionary fantasy stars Matthew Broderick as a teenage computer genius who hacks into the Pentagon's defense system and sets World War III into motion. All the fun is in the film's set-up, as Broderick befriends Ally Sheedy and starts the international crisis by pretending while online to be the Soviet Union. After that, it's not hard to predict what's going to happen: government agents swoop in, but the story ends up in the "hands" of machines talking to one another. Thus we're stuck with flashing lights, etc. John Badham (Saturday Night Fever) directs in strict potboiler mode. Kids still like this movie, though. The DVD release has a widescreen presentation, theatrical trailer, Dolby sound, director commentary, optional English, French and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh
