1940's Jimmy Olsen Passes Away

Super Heroes | Superman

The actor who played Butch on the Little Rascals and Our Gang shorts, Thomas Ross Bond has died at the age of 79. Bond died Saturday of complications from heart disease at Northridge Hospital, said his manager, Frank Marks.

There are probably a lot of people who don't realize the Little Rascals bully was actually Jimmy Olsen before his television counterpart Jack Larson who starred alongside the TV legend George Reeves.Bond starred as Jimmy Olsen twice in the 1940's Superman movie serials with Kirk Alyn. He starred in Atom Man Vs. Superman and the original Superman movie serial.

He also appeared as a student on the Bedtime for Bonzo with Ronald Reagan. In 1951, Bond quit acting and went into television directing and production work before retiring in 1991.

He will probably be forever known for the big bully who gave Alfalfa such a hard time on the Little Rascals. Thanks to television those adventures may live on indefinitely. At least I saw them a million times as a kid growing up back in the 1980's.

Batman | dvd reviews | Super Heroes | Superman

Both Superman and Batman animated dvd releases are on their way. Batman's will more than likely come first, and will be pitting Batman vs Dracula. Batman has already had quite a few of straight to video releases from the same creative team as the highly acclaimed Batman the Animated Series. Superman's dvd release will be timed to go along with Superman Returns big theatre release. Duane Capizzi, supervising producer of The Batman television series, is writing both films. Quote from Capizzi, "With Superman, I kind of fell into this project and boy, I've really grown to love him," Capizzi said. "It's a story where Superman is really driven by his passions. And it's sort of the Seven Labors of Hercules, where he literally goes to the ends of the Earth -- and then some -- to rescue somebody very important to him."
