The Invention of Lying started out with a very good premise. It was much like a two hour episode of the Twilight Zone. It was very thought provoking and made me laugh quite a few times. The actors played very likable characters all in all, but then there was one giant half section of the movie that ruined it for me.
First let me tell the premise if you don't know already. The main character described as a short fat man with a pudgy little nose lives in world where nobody ever tells a lie. His main motivation in life is winning over the beautiful lady of his dreams played by Jennifer Garner. In the movie everybody dumps on the short fat guy with the painful truth of his total loserdom. So it had me going, but when his mother dies he makes up a big one about the man in the sky who has mansions for those that die. They had me until then. Now all of a sudden is a not so subtle attack on Christianity. For the rest of the movie the next half of it you get the idea the writers of the movie think God is big lie that needs to be exposed. So thumbs down for the movie. If your an atheists you'll probably love this movie, but every person who believes that there is a God in heaven is going to be very insulted. Too bad because it did have a very good premise to become such a blatant propaganda tool for atheism. |
