Denver Dell Pyle (May 11, 1920 – December 25,
1997) was an American film and television actor.
Denver Pyle was best known for his role on
Andy
Griffith Show as the head of the Darlin clan, and the head of the
Duke clan on the
Dukes
of Hazzard as Uncle Jessie. On the Andy Griffith Show Mr. Darling
and his boys would play great old blue grass music. Occasionally, Andy
would join in, but the Darling boys were an actual real band named the
Dillards. You can
get their music here. You might also remember him from the Grizzly
Adams TV show from the 1970's as Mad Jack. He was also in How
Bugs Bunny Won the West where he looked an awful lot like his Mad
Jack character. He guest starred in shows like
Gunsmoke,
Gomer
Pyle,
Perry
Mason, and lots of other classic
TV shows.
